In the European chemical industry, the present energy constraints are requiring improvements in bioenergy, renewable sources, and energy efficiency utilization.  Moreover, High Education Institutions (HEI) needs to closely follow the present research results and to integrate them within pedagogical methodologies.

Our purpose is to develop standardized Bioenergy & Biorefinery (B&B) modules. We aim to reduce the content differences in EU countries, and to promote students learning by conjugation of the partners’ experience in the chemical process industry. Beyond European HEI, our partnership integrates a company with full competence in Optimization modeling (GAMS, DE), a research centre (Tubitak, TR) aiming at biomass transformations, and a 3rd country HEI well known for developments in biofuels and agro-economics.

The initial point is the already existing B&B contents in the partners HEI. Simultaneously, improvements and tasks are balanced between partners: tuning B&B curricula; building the B&B modules; and developing quality control in concordance with the Bologna principles.

The target groups for the B&B modules are PhD/MSc students, namely, from Process Systems Engineering programs who can expand the graduation skills, industry professionals and practitioners that want to update their knowledge, and graduates from other Engineering specialties or Exact Sciences that search for a process industry approach. It is envisaged to publish brochures addressing the B&B modules, to conjugate them in a Handbook of B&B, and to build a dedicated website. The documentation is provided in the native languages of the partners and in English as common language, and IPP-PT provides the animation techniques

The assessment is internally performed by each partner HEI, and an external procedure is established to provide accreditation of the developed B&B modules. This project promotes students autonomy, and it fosters comparison and transparency between the participating HEI.
